Hydrogen Sulfide and Sulfate are gases that are present in our soil and can be dissolved into our water. Although typically harmless, the smells and tastes from water with sulfur can be very strong and unpleasant. Most commonly referred to as a "rotten egg" smell. Sulfur typically is released from the water when exposed to air, making it difficult to quantify in a test. While the levels of sulfur might be difficult to test, more often the presence of sulfur is subjective and identified by taste and smell. These levels can fluctuate drastically from weather and atmospheric pressures, making them seem prevalent more on some days than others.
